How to flourish in your homemaking

There's more than one way to flourish in your homemaking and this will look different for every woman.

Whether you stay home full time or work full time, if you have kids or pets, there are ways you can cultivate skills and really settle into homemaking

So you can feel proud of the work you're doing within your home , because ultimately that's the goal.

Build up your Confidence

Building confidence in certain skills is one of the best ways to cultivate a productive life as a homemaker.

I find one great way to do this is by choosing what you truly value, picking at least a couple things that you want to focus on, and work on growing your skill set in those areas.

Do you value providing nourishing food for your family? You could cultivate cooking and baking skills, maybe that also means growing your own food.

If you're a stay at home wife with no children, you can volunteer some of your time to your community, build up your talents before you have children, or even rescue a pet in need of a home.

Personally, I love interior decorating, and having a clean home. So I spent a lot of time and energy creating a cozy space, and cultivating a good cleaning routine. Luckily I had an understanding of how to cook from my mother and grandma, but I also had to improve upon that to be able to do all the cooking , and meal planning.

Focus on what you value

Do what fits you and what you're truly willing to dedicate your time and energy to. Maybe you're a homeschooling mom who needs to prioritize her children's education, so that's one of the things you focus on.

It's best to adjust for the life you have and the life you want to create for your family. Focus on what you value most and what you have time for, that fits your season of life.

I have a hard working spouse who works a stressful job, so I really try to create a peaceful, stress free home environment. That's why i really value having a clean home and fresh home cooked meals.

One of the things to ask yourself is what are your responsibilities and how can you grow in those areas. This is gonna look different for every homemaker based on what your responsibilities are and what areas you really want to thrive in.

Creating a peaceful haven

While focusing on what you value is important to flourishing as a homemaker, what I believe to be the most crucial part of homemaking is your attitude and desire to be a good spouse and or mother.

What people really remember is not how clean your bathroom is, although it can make a good impression, they really remember how you make them feel. Can you, your family, and visitors feel at peace in your home.

While cleanliness and good food can play a major role it's all about how you treat each other. If you fight with or nit pick your spouse, if someone walks into your home and feels unwelcome. A good meal will not be enough to fix that.

To flourish as a homemaker we have to truly understand what makes a home. Homes are supposed to be somewhere safe, a haven away from the stresses of the outside world. The place where your family can find peace.

We have truly created a home, when the members who live there walk in and feel a sense of relief. When they feel like they can be themselves and are safe to do so, that's when it truly feels like home.

Serving others the true calling of a homemaker

Getting a compliment on a homemade meal is a great feeling, But what really matters to is that when a friend who is going through a tough time, they can come over and get away from the difficulties of life.

When my husband can come home and unwind from a hard day, when my family can come home to get away from the stress of every day life and find peace eating good food and relaxing. These moments are what truly matters. For people to not just feel welcome but to feel wanted, to find comfort within these walls.

In this world the way it has become , a lot of homes don't always look like a friend with a shoulder to cry on or a night spent laughing with family. We may have lost some sense of what home is and what it should feel like.

We can find peace in our homes and with our families once again. It's in those moments that you will know that you are contributing to this world.

What you do within the walls of your home has value.

I think flourishing as a homemaker means that not just others, but you feel safe, valued and at ease within your own home.

So focus on your responsibilities, how you can grow and improve, but don't forget the most important part, loving your family.

Remembering why you chose to be a homemaker

Flourishing as a homemaker comes down to remembering why you wanted to be one in the first place, what drew you to this lifestyle?

Maybe you had an idea of what you wanted your life to look like, whether that's to spend more time with your family, to create a cozy and peaceful environment, don't get so caught up in trying to be a perfect homemaker that you lose sight of what you are doing this for.

Take Care, Danielle.
